Footings are a very important part of deck construction because they provide the foundation that is needed to support your deck. Your deck design will determine how live and dead loads are transferred from different sections of the deck to the ground.

The more footings your deck has to distribute the total load, the less weight each footing will need to carry.

There are many ways to provide a good footing for your deck size , most cases it will depend on your soil , hight of the deck and size .

As an example if you have a 10x10 deck that is only 20 inches off the ground , the footing type will be on pier blocks and your deck is not attached to your home, this is called free standing and free floating .

Most cases your deck will need a frost footings .The old way is to dig down below the frost level  and pour cement in a sonic tub with a bell shaped bottom of the footing . How ever if you have a moist soil and a high water table this types of footings are known to fail and the deck footing will heave .

Now there is a new and easy way to get a frost footing this is called

Diamond Pier.

The Diamond Pier® Foundation System is a pre-engineered footing system that uses pin pile technology. The system was designed to replace conventional concrete pier footing typically used in construction of decks, gazebos, screen porches and similar type projects. Using large steels pins that are pile-driven through a high-strength precast concrete head, Diamond Pier allows builders to start framing more quickly.

The heavy-duty foundation system saves time and scheduling headaches. With Diamond Pier, builders set the product, drive the pins, connect the bracket and start building. No more digging holes, pouring concrete or repairing landscape. Diamond Pier features a low environmental impact and can be used in wetland and conservation areas.

Diamond Pier load capacities are greater than or equal to a standard concrete pier footing size. There is no need to change design of post layouts, just follow the load chart and installation instructions, substituting Diamond Piers where conventional footings are planned.

Diamond Piers light weight and the ease of installation make this product a great alternative for any residential or commercial project. They are backed with a warranty lasting the life of the structure.

Available in sizes: DP50, DP75 and DP100.
